2 Therefore x an overseer [1] must be above reproach, y the husband of one wife, [2] z sober-minded, self-controlled, respectable, a hospitable, b able to teach,
6 He must not be a recent convert, or he may f become puffed up with conceit and fall into the condemnation of the devil.
8 Therefore it says,
9 (h In saying, “He ascended,” what does it mean but that he had also descended into i the lower regions, the earth? [3] 10 He who descended is the one who also j ascended k far above all the heavens, that he might l fill all things.) 11 And m he gave the n apostles, the prophets, the o evangelists, the p shepherds [4] and teachers, [5]
7 For m the lips of a priest should guard knowledge, and people [6] should seek instruction from his mouth, for he is the messenger of the Lord of hosts.
