18 v And now what do you gain by going to Egypt
to drink the waters of w the Nile?
x Or what do you gain by going to Assyria
to drink the waters of y the Euphrates?
36 d How much you go about,
changing your way!
You shall be e put to shame by Egypt
as you were put to shame by Assyria.
Do Not Go Down to Egypt
30 “Ah, n stubborn children,” declares the Lord,
o “who carry out a plan, but not mine,
and who make p an alliance, but not of my Spirit,
that they may add sin to sin;
2 q who set out to go down to Egypt,
without asking for my direction,
to take refuge in the protection of Pharaoh
and to seek shelter in the shadow of Egypt!
Woe to Those Who Go Down to Egypt
31 Woe to v those who go down to Egypt for help
and rely on horses,
who w trust in chariots because they are many
and in horsemen because they are very strong,
but x do not look to the Holy One of Israel
or consult the Lord!
